Not a dog

I'm currently working on several pieces, and one of them isn't a dog. It's been a while since my subject matter wasn't canine, so I dug up this pic of a rose painting I did a few years ago. I need to get back into the zone of painting a texture that is totally different than fur. I love (and miss) this painting. It was a wedding present for a friend whose last name is Bloom. Get it?

Coming soon: several new dog commissions, including a mosaic. Yay!

Jake (1 of 2)

This is Sharon's other Chihuahua, Jake. (I featured his brother Elwood in an earlier post.) Jake is the shorter, heftier of the two brothers and he's super cute. This painting is one of two of Jake that I'm doing for Sharon. Three chihuahua paintings down, one to go...

The In Living Pink auction went well and my painting received several bids and earned a nice little chunk of money towards the Young Survival Coalition, so I'm thrilled.

Gigi

A few months ago, my friend Dina and I visited Jen and her new baby. Dina spent the afternoon cooing at the baby, while I spent the afternoon photographing the dog. Ha ha ha. Quite telling!! Anyway, the photos inspired this painting. Rendering the cute Pottery Barn rug from Jen's living room took a loooong time.

I just saw Jen yesterday and casually blurted out, "I painted your dog"....turns out, she was planning on commissioning me anyway. Ah, serendipity! So this painting will be sold soon. I hope you like it, Jen!!

Bo

I miss my friend Kim. This is a mosaic of Bo, her Akita. I was in Kim and Brian's wedding and this mosaic was my present to them. Kim's birthday is coming up and mine just passed. Time for cocktails...

Elwood

My friend Sharon has two adorable Chihuahuas, Jake and Elwood (a gold star to anyone who gets the reference to those names). These two paintings are of Elwood. Jake's portraits are coming soon.

Finishing my second portrait of Elwood (green background) proved to be very therapeutic. A week ago I had surgery and I've been recovering (horizontally) ever since. Today I felt up to painting and three hours later I finally feel like me again. Woo hoo! This painting will be displayed at a silent auction, to which I will be donating a custom dog portrait. The event, called In Living Pink, benefits the Young Survival Coalition, an organization dedicated to breast cancer awareness--specifically the occurrence of breast cancer in women under age 40.

(Sharon I hope you like it!!)
